27th International Symposium on Controversies in Psychiatry

Published Categorised as Agenda, Congresses, General

Dear colleagues,

One more year it is a pleasure for us to introduce the International Symposium on Controversies in Psychiatry, whose 27th edition will focus on the topic “VIOLENCE and AGGRESSION”.

The ongoing COVID-19 crisis that we are experiencing has forced that long travel restrictions and social distancing have been imposed, making it difficult to hold events such as Controversies in Psychiatry in person. That is why we have decided to convert our scientific meeting to a totally virtual format that will allow the scientific training exchange to which we were accustomed, while protecting the safety, health and well-being of all participants.

Our goal is that this virtual Controversies in Psychiatry continue to be a place of reference for the Mental Health community at an international level.

The virtual meeting will take place between August 28th and September 11th, 2020, maintaining the live interaction of the discussions of the different round tables. But we have adapted the structure of the Symposium to make this online format more user-friendly.

Registered participants will continue to be able to access CME credits reallocated to the virtual meeting, and accepted poster authors will be able to present them in virtual format.

The symposium, raised as an annual monothematic event, has become a benchmark of European psychiatry. Each year the theme of the symposium varies, and the scientific/organizing committee chooses the talks and selects the speakers, who are always world class experts in their respective subjects. Each one of them present their personal views and experience, as well as the results of their research, in a completely industry-independent way. Controversies is the only event of its kind in continental Europe and we believe that the success of continued attendance over time validates its format and the proposed methodology.

“Violence and Aggression” is a topic of wide relevance in our society, but rarely raised from the field of Psychiatry and Psychology. Therefore, in this edition we will review the physiological and social bases of violence, its relationship with various mental disorders, its influence on people’s mental health, as well as therapeutic management options and social and global interventions.

We look forward to your attendance, and that in the not too distant future we can meet again in Barcelona.

Yours sincerely,
Organizing Committee
