Taking Care of Caretakers
Psychiatric support service for health professionals created
The National Mental Health Program of the Directorate-General for Health and the Ordem dos Médicos are some of the entities that have joined forces with the School of Medicine of University of Minho to create a free psychiatric consultation service by video call for health professionals who are at the service of the Portuguese.
The School of Medicine of the University of Minho, together with the support of the National Mental Health Program of the DGS, the Ordem dos Médicos, the Portuguese Society of Psychiatry and Mental Health (SPPSM) and the Portuguese Association of Psychiatry Interns (APIP), created a psychiatric consultation service for health professionals who are on the front line as one of groups most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic given the increased use of health services.
The service, called “Cuidar de Quem Cuida”, consists of scheduling psychiatry consultations by video call, in which doctors will evaluate and guide clinical situations, providing free support to all health professionals who need it.
In addition to these health professionals, we have the support of volunteer students from the 6th year of the Integrated Master in Medicine who will schedule appointments and provide useful information to all participants in this project. Logistical support for the operation of the project is guaranteed by the P5 Digital Medicine Center. The service is available immediately and the offer will increase over the next few days.
This is an initiative that aims to take care of those who take care of everyone affected by COVID-19, at a time when situations of anxiety and stress are normal and common.
